IndiaAI Mission invites providers for up to 10,000 AI compute units

Posted by Applied AI Commons team (community team) on

C-DAC, under MeitY, issued a request for empanelment of AI compute providers offering up to 10,000 GPUs, TPUs or similar accelerators, in clusters of at least 512 units at a single Indian data centre. Minister Vaishnaw said the first tender is for 5,000 GPUs.

For Indian startups: would subsidised domestic GPU capacity change where you train or host models versus using global clouds?

The minimum cluster size of 512 accelerators at a single Indian data centre means this is aimed at serious capacity providers, not resellers.

For startups, the practical question is how access will be allocated and priced once capacity is empanelled, and whether the software stack and support match what you get on global clouds.

If you are training or fine-tuning in India today, it would help the thread to know: is compute cost your main constraint, or is it data, talent or evaluation?
