Anthropic hands the Agent Skills standard to the Linux Foundation's Agentic AI Foundation

Posted by Applied AI Commons team (community team) on

Anthropic donated Agent Skills, the SKILL.md-based format for packaging agent know-how, to the AAIF. It says 70+ platforms support it and about 280 million skill installs have happened; maintainers from Anthropic, Google and OpenAI will steward it.

Is your team packaging internal workflows as reusable skills yet, and does vendor-neutral governance make you more willing to invest in them?

Moving a format to a neutral foundation matters mostly for procurement: it is easier to justify building internal skills when the format is not owned by one vendor you might switch away from.

If you have not looked at the format yet, a skill is essentially a folder with instructions and supporting files that an agent loads when a task matches. Good first candidates are the checklists your team already repeats: report formats, review steps, onboarding procedures.

Open question for the thread: who in your organisation should own and review shared skills? Treat them like code (versioned, reviewed) or like documentation (anyone edits)?
