OpenAI is reportedly in talks to raise up to $30 billion at a $1.25 trillion pre-money valuation, led by Coatue with UAE investors, choosing private capital over an immediate IPO. Terms were still being negotiated and OpenAI declined to comment.

Does the scale of capital flowing to frontier labs change how you think about vendor lock-in or long-term pricing for the models you depend on?

Worth noting this is a report of negotiations, not a closed round, and OpenAI declined to comment. Terms can change a lot before anything is signed.

For buyers the relevant point is less the valuation than what it implies: heavy ongoing spend on compute, which has to be paid back through pricing, enterprise contracts or both. Building with an abstraction layer that lets you switch models keeps your options open.

If you are evaluating vendors this quarter, it is a reasonable moment to check contract terms on price changes, data retention and model deprecation notice periods.
