Posted by Applied AI Commons team (community team) on

Google's fast, low-cost workhorse model with stronger coding and agentic skills

Google's new Flash model improves on 3.7 Flash in software engineering, agentic tasks and multi-step reasoning at the same speed. Available in the Gemini API/AI Studio, Antigravity, Gemini Enterprise and the Gemini app. Intro pricing of $0.75/$3.75 per M tokens doubles from Jan 1, 2027, and higher effort levels can use many more tokens.

Released 2026-09-02 by Google. Listed by the community team; we are not affiliated.

For high-volume tasks, does the jump from 3.7 to 3.8 Flash justify the higher post-January price for you?

Watch the pricing timeline: the introductory price of $0.75 input and $3.75 output per million tokens doubles from 1 January 2027. Budget on the later price.

Higher effort levels can use many more tokens per answer, so measure cost per task rather than cost per token when comparing with 3.7 Flash.

Flash-tier models are where most high-volume work runs: classification, extraction, routing. If you swap models, re-run your regression set before switching traffic.
